Legal Document Drafting
This proposed application uses BrainShift Workspace and BrainShift Studio to support legal document drafting, a medium-complexity generative AI use case for legal departments. Lawyers could turn matter instructions, approved templates, and clause libraries into reviewable agreements, notices, and amendments while retaining responsibility for legal judgment and final wording.
This page describes a proposed application of the BrainShift platform. It is not a description of a specific customer deployment.
Business challenge
Drafting often starts with a prior agreement whose commercial terms, governing law, or approval history no longer fit the matter. Lawyers must locate the current template, check clause alternatives, and reconcile instructions scattered across email, intake forms, and document repositories.
A fluent draft can still contain an invented obligation, an inconsistent definition, or a missing exception. Confidentiality boundaries also matter: access to one client or business unit's files must not make those materials available when drafting for another.
How BrainShift solves it
BrainShift Studio could configure a drafting application that retrieves authorized templates and approved clauses, gathers required matter details, and generates a structured first draft. Supporting passages would be linked where available, with missing information and proposed departures clearly marked rather than silently filled in.
BrainShift Workspace would give legal staff a secure environment to request drafts, compare clause options, and refine language. The application would distinguish approved wording from generated proposals and prepare a review package; it would not determine legal sufficiency or authorize execution.
How it works
Step-by-step workflow
- 01
1. Capture instructions
Collect document type, parties, jurisdiction, commercial terms, deadlines, and the responsible lawyer through a structured drafting brief.
- 02
2. Retrieve authorized sources
Locate current templates, clause guidance, and permitted matter documents; show source versions and flag conflicting instructions.
- 03
3. Prepare the draft
Generate sections using approved wording where applicable, leaving explicit placeholders for missing facts or unresolved legal choices.
- 04
4. Check internal consistency
Flag inconsistent definitions, dates, cross-references, party names, and departures from the selected template for lawyer assessment.
- 05
5. Review and revise
Present the draft, source references, and exception list to the assigned lawyer, who accepts, edits, or rejects proposed language.
- 06
6. Approve and hand off
After authorized approval, export the reviewed version for established document controls; external release and signature remain separately authorized.

More consistent wording

Suggested KPIs
Security and deployment
Configure sovereign, on-premises, or private cloud deployment to meet confidentiality and residency requirements. Use SSO, role-based access, matter-level permissions, and audit trails for source access, generation, revisions, and approvals. Define retention and model-access policies before processing privileged or sensitive materials.
Human oversight
A designated lawyer must review legal interpretations, jurisdictional suitability, substantive clauses, and unresolved placeholders. High-impact actions, including external release, acceptance of obligations, and signature, require explicit human approval through established authority limits.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
