Clinical Document Intelligence
This proposed application uses BrainShift Document Intelligence and BrainShift Studio to help clinical teams interpret Arabic and English patient documents. It would extract relevant findings, preserve source references, and prepare reviewable summaries without replacing clinical judgment or independently updating patient records.
This page describes a proposed application of the BrainShift platform. It is not a description of a specific customer deployment.
Business challenge
Clinical records arrive as referral letters, discharge summaries, laboratory tables, imaging reports, and scanned forms. Differences in language, layout, dates, and terminology make it difficult to establish a reliable patient timeline, especially when records span multiple care settings.
Medication lists may conflict, allergies may appear only in narrative notes, and a historical diagnosis may resemble an active problem. Clinicians need to distinguish documented facts from uncertain extraction and missing information before relying on a generated summary.
How BrainShift solves it
Document Intelligence would interpret text, tables, and document visuals in Arabic and English. Configured extraction schemas could capture medications, allergies, procedures, laboratory values, and encounter dates while retaining units, document provenance, and references to supporting passages.
BrainShift Studio would support a custom clinical review application that assembles timelines and evidence-linked summaries. The application would flag conflicting entries and unclear scans, distinguish documented findings from generated interpretations, and require authorized clinician approval before exporting information for clinical use.
How it works
Step-by-step workflow
- 01
1. Select authorized records
Retrieve documents within the approved patient and encounter scope, checking identifiers before combining records.
- 02
2. Interpret document structure
Read Arabic and English text, tables, and scanned layouts; flag illegible sections rather than silently filling gaps.
- 03
3. Extract clinical fields
Capture findings with dates, units, negation, and source references, separating current entries from historical mentions.
- 04
4. Reconcile and summarize
Build a chronological draft, highlight contradictory medication or allergy entries, and identify information requiring clarification.
- 05
5. Conduct clinical review
Let authorized clinicians inspect source passages, correct extracted fields, and approve or reject the proposed summary.
- 06
6. Export approved content
Provide an approved summary through a configured interface, preserving reviewer identity, document versions, and export history.
BrainShift components
What each module does
Document Intelligence
Interpret bilingual clinical documents, including laboratory tables and scanned forms, for structured extraction.
BrainShift Studio
Build the evidence-linked review application, extraction schemas, summary logic, and clinician approval experience.
Enterprise integrations
Systems it can connect to
Configurable integration options, confirmed during implementation.
- REST APIs: Potential connection to authorized electronic health record and laboratory interfaces.
- Document management: Retrieve controlled clinical document versions and associated metadata.
- SQL Server: Read approved encounter indexes or store validated extraction records.
- Identity providers: Apply organizational sign-in and clinical reviewer permissions.
Data sources
- Referral letters and consultation notes
- Discharge summaries and encounter records
- Laboratory reports with values, units, and reference ranges
- Radiology reports, rather than autonomous interpretation of diagnostic images
- Medication lists and allergy documentation
Business outcomes
Potential benefits
Clearer encounter preparation
Could give clinicians a source-linked view of relevant history.
More visible discrepancies
Could surface conflicting entries before clinicians finalize documentation.
Less repeated transcription
Could reduce manual re-entry of reviewed document fields.
Better bilingual review
Could make Arabic and English records easier to inspect together.
Traceable summaries
Could connect each reviewed finding to its supporting document.
Suggested KPIs
Security and deployment
Design the application for sovereign, on-premises, or private cloud deployment according to organizational requirements. Configure SSO, role-based access, patient-data boundaries, and audit trails for retrieval, edits, approvals, and exports. Apply approved retention and model-processing policies to sensitive health information.
Human oversight
Clinical owners should validate extraction schemas and summary behavior before use. Authorized clinicians must review patient matching, discrepancies, and final content; diagnoses, treatment decisions, and patient-record changes always require human approval. Unclear evidence should remain explicitly unresolved.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
“Summarize this patient's recent discharge documents.”
The application would draft a dated summary with source references and unresolved discrepancies for clinician review.
“Compare the medication lists in these two referrals.”
It would highlight documented differences in drug names, doses, and dates without deciding which regimen is correct.
“Extract laboratory results from this Arabic scan.”
It would structure readable values, units, and reference ranges, flagging unclear cells for verification.
Does this replace clinical judgment?
No. It supports document review; clinicians remain responsible for interpreting findings and approving any care-related action.
